GEOGRAPHICAL, ENVIRONMENTAL CONTEXT
San Cristobal is the easternmost island in the Galapagos, and one of the oldest geologically. Its old English name of Chatham was chosen by William Pitt, the 1st Earl of Chantam. San Cristóbal has an area of 558Km2 and its highest point is 730 meters. The capital of the archipelago is Puerto Baquerizo Moreno, which is located at the south-western end of the island.
Las Goteras Ranch is located in the southeastern end of San Cristóbal Island. This island is visited by approximately 210,000 tourists per year, and its climate is tropical.
The increase of plants introduced in areas inhabited by scalecia, lecocarpus, calandrina galapagos, among others, has resulted in these species being in danger of extinction and with it the appreciable loss of biodiversity, causing imbalance in natural cycles. By planting and conserving these endangered native plants, we can save these species.
The losses of endemic and native plants that are in danger of extinction is of concern for us and for the community at large, since a number of introduced species are rapidly invading the habitats of our species. Unfortunately, we are some of the few people who do something for the conservation and protection of these plants.
The most pressing environmental problem is the absence of an organic product with which to combat or kill the invasive species. The use of chemicals currently used to eradicate these invasive species cause soil damage and poisons the atmosphere through the production and accumulation of these chemicals, affecting the health of the population who
